Relationship with God?

God limited Himself in Jesus while He was on earth, but is never limited in Himself. God is one God, in each of his persons; Father, Son, Holy Spirit, and each of the three entirely God. If God was only one person, then creation would be without love and relationship. Love and relationship is who God is. All love and relationship is only possible in us because it is in God – Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

Man’s access to this relationship is only made possible through the extravagance of God’s love expressed through the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus from Nazareth. Stated another way, this relationship with God is only possible through Jesus, the Christ of God. This Son of Man gave himself to receive the damnation of Sin in man. In a very way out way, you could call Jesus the one who transformed from righteousness to Sin. It’s often been said, you are what you eat. Jesus ate Sin.

His completed oneness with Sin was accomplished on the cross. His destination – hell. After three days, He was quickened, or made alive and came out of hell and the grave. As a resurrected man who came from hell, He became the first of a new species, a new creation. There was never a man like the resurrected Jesus. He indeed, was the first of a new creation. There was never anyone like the resurrected Jesus, that is, until He breathed on man after His resurrection. Since then, those who receive His breath, are just like Him. There’s something about having the breath of God!

Just as God breathed into the nostrils of the Genesis man, the resurrected Jesus breathed on man and told them to receive his spirit. Jesus has the authority to give any man his spirit. This receiving the Holy Spirit is the new birth. Unless man receives the Holy Spirit, he is not born again, but acting out some religious philosophy trying to improve his brokenness. I know that sounds blunt. That’s because it is.

It’s a blunt message perhaps, but one thing it’s not – it’s not religious in nature. There’s nothing religious about dying in someone’s place. There’s nothing religious about going to hell. There’s nothing religious about being made alive while in hell and raised from the dead. It’s not religious, it’s miraculous. Nope, there’s nothing religious about believing that Jesus rose from the dead any more than believing that two commercial jets flew into the World Trade Center’s twin towers. Both of those events actually happened. Nothing religious here.

Love is not the limitation of God’s nature, it is the flying of his nature. God is Love! If God did not have a relationship with Himself, then He would not be capable of Love at all. Or worse, that God would only love as a limitation of His nature. That means He (God) could possibly act without Love.

Since God is Love, then He is not limited in His nature; God does not love as a limitation of His nature. If man is to love as God loves, then man will love everyone or he can love no one. Man can possibly act without love, God cannot. Man’s love is like someone with measles, it’s spotted. He loves this one and that one, and then hates the next, sometimes for no explainable reason. I believe man loves in others what he loves in himself and hates in those the things that he recognizes and loathes within him. Our limitations become critical points seen in others. Love is not limited like this. It is the flying! – 1 John 4:7, 8

I have His nature. His love is being perfected in me by trusting in Him through any crisis. As I sacrifice the natural man to the spirit, the spiritual man becomes natural in me, and I am as He is here and now. – 1 John 4:17

“As I am able, I am to rest in the level of trust I have in Father’s love for me.” – No matter how small.

You cannot share with one Person of the Trinity without sharing with them all. To love one another is to think, speak and interact with each other with honor and respect. To walk in this relationship is to honor it.

This relationship is not dictated by hierarchy. The order of hierarchy is actually a displayed distrust and insecurity. True holiness among men is to love another as God loves Himself in this relationship of equals. Humans are so lost and damaged that it is incomprehensible that people could live or work together without someone being in charge.

I'm a pretty simple country guy who enjoys living in the wide open spaces. I was married two years after graduating from high school. Life was pretty simple. You know, black and white, clear cut, no hassle kind of life style. Then 40 years later our marriage ceded to death. Life as I knew it was over! Pain and suffering have a way of opening you up like a plow tills a field. As a result, my black and white philosophy went to 256 shades of gray. I have a changed perspective, a different heart and a new life. My wife, Carrie, and I live in Kempton, Pennsylvania where we are enjoying our new lives together with our friends, family, horses and a colony of feral cats.

  1. Good word Roy and even though I totally agree, the only thing that limits God, is us. But that is for another discussion. You keep them coming my friend. Have a blessed day today.

    1. It’s an awesome thought that God has limited himself to us for the sake of relationship. And all the while mankind has not understood His intent for intimacy. Thanks for your encouragement!
