The diffusion of . . .

Truth Shines…

“Truth shines more brightly the wider it is diffused.” – John Wycliffe, 1382

I first came across this quote about 3o years ago and it’s much more relevant today for me than ever. Most everything is weakened by diffusing, like diffusing a bomb. Bad example.

Light, for example is weakened by diffusing it. Diffused light is great for producing photographs without harsh shadows. The force of water and wind is diminished by diffusing them.

Truth is the exception to the norm. It has a quality like a finely cut diamond. A single beam of light passing through its facets produces a spectrum of color intensified by the quality of the stone. Truth is like that diamond with this exception, it’s more beautiful.

Truth is in a genre all its own. There is nothing like Him. In an earlier post, I wrote unless truth manifests itself in flesh, it most  likely is not truth, but only knowledge. So while truth is knowledge, celibate knowledge without flesh and blood, is not truth. So truth must be one with a human being. Truth apart from the human being is a disembodied spirit.

Hey, this sounds a bit strange, even to me. Truth is a spirit. Knowledge is not. Ok, I know this sounds strange, but it is strange. We’re familiar with telling the truth as opposed to lying. Court room witnesses swear to tell the truth while placing their hand on a Bible. Truth is more than telling the truth or believing the truth.

Truth is a Person.

That person is Jesus of Nazareth.

I must eat His flesh and drink His blood.

That was a hard thing to hear when Jesus first said those words. It doesn’t sound any easier now.

But, Oh the abundant joy of triumphant freedom that follows!

I'm a pretty simple country guy who enjoys living in the wide open spaces. I was married two years after graduating from high school. Life was pretty simple. You know, black and white, clear cut, no hassle kind of life style. Then 40 years later our marriage ceded to death. Life as I knew it was over! Pain and suffering have a way of opening you up like a plow tills a field. As a result, my black and white philosophy went to 256 shades of gray. I have a changed perspective, a different heart and a new life. My wife, Carrie, and I live in Kempton, Pennsylvania where we are enjoying our new lives together with our friends, family, horses and a colony of feral cats.
